Project Spotlight – St. Andrew’s Episcopal Lower School Chapel

April 5, 2011

STG Design in Austin is working on the The St. Andrew’s Lower School Chapel, the final building to the original urban campus masterplan. The Lower School Chapel is a simple connection between the Lower School and the Middle School. The circular form of the Chapel allows a soft transition between the rigid geometry of the surrounding buildings while also creating complimentary outdoor gathering spaces. With a given palette of limestone, wood soffits and concrete lintels, the Chapel uses these materials to create bold forms acting as thresholds to contemplative spaces and intricate geometry that cast shadows throughout the course of the day. The building seats 220 students and has a sacristy for the school Chaplin.
